I would give this book 4 1/2 stars. It was an easy enjoyable read. I liked the story and the ending was excellent. The characters were interesting too. I would recommend this book.
I am not an avid romance novel reader, but I really enjoyed this book. I love the Scottish culture and the time period she chose to write in and I loved the characters and story line. Very good book.
This was the first Julie Garwood book I have read and I would recommend it to others. I found it a bit wordy in places and some things I thought were kind of smoothed over, but overall I enjoyed the book and the characters.
I found Julie Garwood's books at a B&B in the Caribbean. Garwood's writing takes me to the point where I feel like I am actually there and participating in the conversations. Ms. Little did I know how incredibly well done her period pieces are. Yes, there are some graphic words, but don't let that shy you away from this book. But the Bride is my absolute favorite one to date. The ones we read revolved around the Buchanans of current day (Heartbreaker, Murder List, etc). The portrait that she paints with words makes my imagination come alive and makes a movie in my mind.
It mixes intrigue with humor and in a way that sparks the soul. Ms. Garwood is a very talented writer and this is the book that should not be missed. The Bride is a true GEM.
She is funny.really funny (without meaning to be). Which leads me to Alec. What a man. She is refreshingly honest, loyal, and quite a determined young woman. Rereading it, I was reminded of why.I think the true strength of this book lies within the heroine.
The many scenes where these two attempt to communicate had me in laughing out loud. There is no lies or deceit. The Bride is one of those books that I read years ago and have never forgotten. She storms into Alec's life and turns it upside down. He is the perfect contradiction.
Their discussion and witty banter is priceless. She is IMPOSSIBLE not to love, and as this book flies by, her actions and motives become oh so endearing. She is English, so there is prejudice against her from the Scots right off the bat, but it only takes Jaime 1 DAY to turn the Kincaid clan's scorn into admiration and loyalty. No lies, betrayals, misunderstandings.nothing.
This past week, I've been revisiting "old favorites" to see if they stand up to my initial impression. Powerful and deadly, but gentle and kind as well. He is instantly attracted to Jaime, but the real attraction grows not from her stunning looks, but from her heart and soul. Jaime was constantly forgetting her train of thought and Alec's humor is so dry and witty that Jaime misses many of the flirtations that Alec bestows upon her. This is truly one of the best couples in Historical Romance. she, with confidence, constantly is going the wrong way). They enjoy each other, in and out of bed, and seek to please one another. Jaime is just a great lady.
Jaime is always up to something and causing Alec problems, but he loves her for who she is, and wouldn't change her for the world. She has a horrible sense of direction but has lots of self confidence.(ie. Alec, calmly and sweetly, always manages to rescue and steer her back in the right direction. They both resist the marriage, but once married.enjoy it. This is classic Garwood.I love it (everytime I read it)., and I think you will too.
